Title : The natural infection of Lymnaea truncatula Müller by Haplometra cylindracea Zeder and Notocotylus sp. A report of some field observations
Authors : P. HOURDIN, A. MOUKRIM et D. RONDELAUD
Summary : Malacological and parasitological studies were carried out during 22 months in a population of Lymnaea truncatula located in a permanent brook. Two parasites were observed in these snails : i) Haplometra cylindracea with a prevalence of 43 to 78 % in 10 mm and more high adults, and of 37 to 49 % in 4 mm high snails, ii) Notocotylus sp. with a prevalence of 1 to 4 % and of 4 to 9 % respectively. The parasite burden was 24-41 sporocysts in the snails infected by H cylindracea ; it was 33-51 rediae in those infected by Notocotylus sp. The prevalence and the sporocyst number of H. cylindracea in adult snails varied during the year : the highest prevalence was noted in May ; the highest sporocyst number was observed in Winter and the smallest number in July.
