Title : Molecular pathogenic mechanisms in diarrheagenic Escherichia coli from man and animals. A review
Authors : A. MILON.
Summary : There is an increasing knowledge on the various mechanisms by which Escherichia coli can induce diarrhea in human or animals. In this review, the four human E. coli pathotypes (i.e. enterotoxigenic, enteroinvasive, enteropathogenic and enterohemorrhagic E. coli) and their animal counterparts are described. The systems they use to adhere to intestinal mucosa, to colonize digestive tract, eventually to enter cells, or to disturb the enterocytes metabolism by mean of toxins or membrane signaling are considered.
Keywords : Escherichia coli - diarrhea - adhesion - toxins - review - human - animal.
