Title : Metabolism of Drugs and Poisons in the Horse
Authors : A. SCHMID and H. SCHMID
Summary : In this paper we present a survey of the current knowledge about biotransformation of xenobiotics in the horse by looking at the metabolic reactions of - phase I, i.e. oxidations, reductions and hydrolyses, -phase II, that is conjugations with glucuronic acid, sulfuric acid, alkyl groups, amino acids and taurine and glutathione, - other metabolic reactions such as chiral inversion and epimerization. The enzymes catalysing the above reactions are discussed as well as differences between species in the metabolism of xenobiotics.
Keywords : doping - drugs - metabolism - poisons xenobiotics - horse.
