Title : Whole-body autoradiographic study of the distribution of radioactivity in ducks dosed with [14C]-chloramphenicol : effects of cramming.

Summary : The tissular distribution of radioactivity was assessed by quantitative wholebody autoradiography in control and fatted ducks dosed with [14C]-chloramphenicol. Birds were given chloramphenicol orally or intravenously. The dose was 100 µCi/kg. Blood samples were obtained in the 24 hours after dosage. Animals were sacrificed 6 and 24 hours after dosage and prepared according to a quantitative whole-body autoradiography. Radioactivity counting was carried out in blood and plasma samples. Blood radioactivity indicated that control ducks had sustained plasma concentrations with fatted ducks after an oral administration. Moreover residual radioactivity concentrations are higher in control animals than in fatted ducks.
