Title : Number of thrombocytes and mean platelet volume in canine babesiosis.
Authors : R. BARIC RAFAJ, V. MRLJAK, J. F. GUELFI, A. MARINCULIC, D. POTOCNJAK, Z. ZVORC et N. KUCER
Summary : The dogs with babesiosis showed very often marked thrombopenia which is sometime followed by anemia and leucopenia. The number of dog’s platelets less than 30 x 109/L may cause the hemorrhagia, sometime fatal. The circulate mass of platelets is an indicator of homeostasis of platelets, more important than the number of platelets alone. In babesiosis, thrombopenia is often followed by increasing of mean platelet volume, which indicate the stimulation of megacaryocytopoiesis and conserve the functional platelet mass.
Keywords : Babesia canis - mean platelet volume - thrombopenia - dog.
