Title : Cutaneous mast cell proliferations in cats : about five cases.
Authors : D. FRITZ, CL. HOPFNER, J.C. GUILHOT-CHRETIEN et E. CARRE
Summary : The study of five cases of cutaneous mast cell tumors in cats showed the similarities and the differences with the diseases described in humans. The first case showed a typical unique sub-cutaneous mass; cytology revealed normal mast cells and also partially degranulated mast cells associated with marked anisocytosis. The second case was a young adult cat with small pruritic benign nodules located on the temple. The third case was characterized by the development of a histiocytic-type cutaneous mass on the right forelimb; the cat then developped recurrent nodular tumors and erythrodermic plates, and in the end lethal visceral metastases. The fourth case was typical of systemic mast cell disease (SMCD) associated with secondary skin tumors. Finally, the fifth case showed numerous small pruritic sebaceous adenomas; histopathology revealed that these nodules were small cutaneous muriform mastocytomas.
