Title : Hemolysins and aerobactin in Salmonella Gallinarum strains isolated from poultry
Authors : T. KOKOSHAROV and K. PHETISOVA
Summary : Hemolysins and aerobactin production of twelve Salmonella Gallinarum strains isolated from dead hens in different poultry farms have been studied. It was determined that none of the tested strains produce B-hemolysin, but three of them (25.0 %) produced a-hemolysin. The fluids with a-hemolysins were lethal for rabbits after intravenously inoculation. Five of the investigated Salmonella Gallinarum strains (41.7 %) were aerobactin positive. Eight (66.7 %) Salmonella Gallinarum strains showed pathogenecity for white mice after intraperitoneally application. For the first time we demonstrated a-hemolysin and aerobactin production in Salmonella Gallinarum strains. Although that we didn’t establish relation between a-hemolytic activity, aerobactin production and the pathogenecity of the tested strains its availability may be play a significant role in the patogenesis of Salmonella Gallinarum infection.
