Title : Helminths of pet dogs in Zaïre
Authors : C. CHARTIER et Françoise CHARTIER
Summary : In Bunia (region of Ituri, Zaïre), a total of 62 stray dogs were examined post-mortem in order to define the main helminth parasites. Parasitism the most frequently encountered was Spirocerca lupi (93 p. 100), Ancylostoma sp (66,7 p. 100) and Dipylidium sp (58,2 p. 100). The other helminths (Taenia sp, Mesocestoides sp and Toxocara sp) had a low prevalence (less than 30 p. 100). With the Jack of Echinococcus granulosus, control mesures should be mainly directed towards the spirocercosis.
Keywords : Helminths - prevalence - Zaïre - dogs.
