Title : | Dietary factors influencing cadmium retention |
Authors : | S. ROTHE, W.E. KOLLMER et W.A. RAMBECK. |
Summary : | In order to lower the accumulation of cadmium in the organs we studied the influence of supplements of various feed compounds on cadmium retention in chicken and pigs. While the addition of vitamin B6, vitamin E, manganese or phytate to the « normal » diet did not decrease the concentration of cadmium, the addition of vitamin D, dietary calcium, zinc, iron and especially vitamin C reduced the cadmium burden in liver, kidney and other organs. A dramatic increase of the pollutant, however, was observed with high dietary supplements of copper. A combination of all these dietary factors favourable or adverse to cadmium accumulation resulted in a retention of this heavy metal which differs by a factor of 16. |
