Summary : IGRAM a eight month old foal suffering from strangles have been studied. A set of monoclonal antibodies (anti-CD5, CD4, CD8 and 12H9B11, 5B9C2) specific for T and B horse lymphocytes have been used to check the profile of lymphocytes subpopulations in this animal. We observed a striking decrease of peripheral CD4 cell population and of the CD4/CD8 ratio. This suggests, as in HIV infection in humans, that the immune system of horse may be the target of acquired immunodeficiences, perhaps of retroviral origin.
