Title : Staining of chick embryo tibia by ulex europaeus 1
Authors : P. FRAYSSINET, A. GUILHEM et I. PRIMOUT.
Summary : Embryo cells modify their cell membrane glycoconjugates during their differentiation. We studied the labelling of chick embryo tibia between Hamilton's stages 29 and 38 with a horseradish peroxydase labelled Ulex europaeus 1 lectin. Sections were observed with a light microscope. Chondrocytes, chondroblasts and hypertrophic chondrocytes were found to be negative at all stages. Neither perichondreum cells nor stacked cells were stained. Some pre-osteoblasts were labelled after stage 31. Most of the transitory osteoblasts and secretory osteoblasts, all osteocytic osteoblasts and osteocytes were positive. Hypertrophic cartilage and bone extracellular matrix were positively stained. Bone staining was suppressed by a alpha-L-Fucosidase pre-digestion of sections. Chondroitinase ABC impaired the staining of the hypertrophic cartilage extracellular matrix.
