Title : Effect of forage level and type on growth and fattening performances of «Mossi» type Djallonke raws.
Authors : V. BOUGOUMA-YAMEOGO, A.J. NIANOGO, R. CORDESSE et S. NASSA.
Summary : This trials compares 2 harvests (late treated with 6 % urea or early) of Pennisetum pedicellatum Trin., supplemented with either 25 or 50 % concentrate. After 85 days of fattening, average daily gains varying from 57 to 89 g/day were observed. The level of concentrate and the type of forage did affect the amount of fat deposited and heart and kidney weights. The 2 forage were similar with respect to weight gain : 71 and 57 g/day with 25 % concentrate and 89 and 79 g/day with 50 %, respectively for the early and for the urea-treated late harvest. An economic analysis indicated that best results are obtained with the 2 forage when fed with 50 % concentrates.
