Title : Metrical data of metapodial bones in female Karagouniko sheep and Hellenic goat
Authors : A. POURLIS, P. KATSOULOS, TH. CHATZIS
Summary : The objective of this study was to record the measurements of the metapodial bones of the ?Karagouniko? sheep breed and the Hellenic goat. The limbs of 30 ewes and 30 goats were used. Also, the indexes d/GL, SD/GL and the metapodial index DEM/Dd were calculated. In sheep the average metacarpal index was significantly higher than the metatarsal one. No significant difference was observed in metapodial indexes in goats. In both sheep and goats the metapodial slenderness index (SD/GL) was significantly higher in metacarpal than metatarsal bones.
