Title : | Pasteurellosis in small ruminants : update of Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella trehalosi serotyping. |
Authors : | G. ABADIE et R. THIERY |
Summary : | Serotyping of Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella trehalosi strains isolated from pasteurellosis affected small ruminants during the 2000-2004 period in France, demonstrated the high frequency of serovar A2 (87 % of isolates from goats and 29 % from sheep). The other frequently isolated serovars in sheep were Al, A7 and A9 and serovars A8 and A12 at a lesser extend. Among P. trehalosi strains, the most common serovar was T4 in sheep and goat (7.3 and 4.2 % respectively). Compared to previous results published in 1991, the high diversity of the Pasteurella serotypes from sheep associated to a relative geographical specificity and the preponderance of serotype A2 in goat were confirmed. Additionally to sanitary measures, vaccination is recommended to decrease the pathological consequences of M. haemolytica and P. trehalosi infections in small ruminants. However, the diversity of the serotypes present in the field should be taken into consideration in vaccine composition. |
